Your route to a doctoral degree

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences awards the academic degree of Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.)
Where do you need to start?
You will need to contact the relevant people in the Doctoral Office (see below for details) in order to register for doctoral studies and for the doctoral examination procedure, which is a necessary subsequent step. Please see our detailed guidelines on the topic for more information.
Did you know...?
N.B.:
- The new doctoral degree regulations dated February 17, 2022 have applied since March 2, 2022.
- You can submit documents to the Doctoral Office in several ways:
- Put it in the mailbox yourself (at Wegelerstr. 10, on the left-hand side next to the front door. Don’t hand in your doctoral thesis in this way!)
- Mail it in (send us your documents via inhouse or standard mail)
- Make a one-to-one appointment with your contact (i.e. simply hand in your documents to us in person)
It can be hard to contact the Doctoral Office by phone, so you are welcome to email us.
Please note: If you publish your doctoral thesis in or after 2024, you will no longer need to deposit two printed copies at the Bonn University Library.
